If are planning to get married, you must first obtain your marriage license. However, there are several requirements one must meet before they will be issued a marriage license in Los Angeles County, such as:
- You must show proof of age by presenting your California driver’s license, U.S. passport, or alien resident card. A certified birth certificate or baptismal record will also be accepted if accompanied with a government-issued picture I.D.
- Proof of divorce, dissolution, or death. This requirement only applies to those people who have previously been married.
- Pay a marriage license fee. A regular marriage license fee is $70. A confidential marriage license fee is $70.
- Marriage license application. Both you and your fiancé must appear together at the Office of the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk in Norwalk or at a district office. Or you have the option of hiring a specialized notary to issue the marriage license.
Once you have obtained your marriage license, your marriage must be solemnized by an authorized officiant.
